20k Corvettes (torpedo) and 10k destroyers (neutron launcher)did it for me last time I killed him. Nearly all the destroyers died. I did this on purpose, using the dreg fleets of the 3 empires I'd vassalized and integrated. The destroyers took the brunt of the dragons fury. I was using no retreat, and a few other bonuses to fire rate.

Depending on how the new admin penalty scaling goes, you may well be able to rush 4 traditions faster than leviathan-killing techs. The dragon will protect your homeworld from invaders and there are a few options in regard to what can you do with that dragon. With the right steps, you can research the dragon and make your own. Combine them in your army and you have a very strong midgame fleet. All in all, one of the most fun origins in our Stellaris origins tier list.
