I am 36 weeks & 4 days with 5cm dilated and 60-70% effacement and steadily losing my mucus plug for a week. A week and 2 days ago I was 4cm dilated. My contractions for the most part blend in with my baby activity so I did not notice them much. Via machine monitor contractions are 6-8 mins apart.

For first time moms effacement (softening of the cervix) happens before dilation so they dilate closer to the onset of labor. This is absolutely normal. Since you are already 36 weeks, one more week and your baby will be considered full term. So don't worry. Just because you are 1cm dilated does not mean that you will have an early delivery.
