I have repaired enough Remington Express models to make them usable that I will no longer put one in my hands, ever. The Maverick or Moss. 500 is a much more trouble-free gun, in my opinion.

The 500 and 590 have a thumb safety that is ambidextrous and easy to use. The Maverick has a crossbolt safety that is right handed. I'd get an 870 or a 500 (I have both). I picked up a synthetic 870 for $275, but like everyone else is saying I love the mossberg safety.

The 590 is anodized finish and a heavier duty receiver. Depends what features you like though. As in the safety position, pump lock location. etc...
