Steve "Pokey" Trachsel helped pitch Duluth to the Little League World Series in 1963 before starring in hockey at Duluth Cathedral High School and for the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. The Duluth Hockey community has lost a true friend and legend with the tragic death of Steve "Pokey" Trachsel and his wife, Cathie. Pokey starred as a youth at the Lower Chester rink before going on to make a name for himself at both Duluth Cathedral H.S. and UMD. Trachsel played for just one year (1991) at Long Beach State, but made quite an impact. A second team All-America selection by Baseball America and second team All-Big West pick, Trachsel keyed the 49er pitching staff in 1991 and led The Beach to the College World Series.
