Given that it's causing you discomfort it's going to need to come out either way. My experience wasn't with the rib, but it was a cancer in bone. Last April I had a tumor in my pelvic bone that ended up being a chondrosarcoma. Chondrosarcoma doesn't respond to chemo or radiation, so the surgeon just had to do a really good job.
