A dark infusion, Dark Weapon is the way to go against Giant Lord. It's just that trying to go in optimally in every fight is generally not worth the bother.

The Uchigatana is very light and has low requirements, buffed you can defend yourself in melee pretty well without having to put many points in dex/strength.
