Just signed up to the forum. I picked up my 2020 Denali 2500 hd duramax this week and noticed a loud knocking at idle which increases in volume as the engine warms up. Went back in to the dealer before I even left the lot and saw the service advisor and the diesel tech who both said it was normal.The chart below shows general L5P Duramax maintenance and service intervals. Please keep in mind your situation may call for more frequent maintenance than what is listed below. Heavy towing or driving in extreme conditions requires more frequent maintenance. Soot levels rose 30% today driving 65mph Over 25 miles. I’ve done 2 regents this week over 500 miles. 1/3 highway driving 2/3 around town and backroads.I took it to Chevy (GM) Dealer for relearning per actuator replacement instructions. The LP5 is the 1st year that GM is making the motor totally in house vs the previous Izuzu diesel influence. One really positive thing is that the Bosch injection system is gone for 17 and the Denso system is in. Not sure I should feel happy it was under warranty but originally took the truck into GMC dealer for what sounded like a boost leak. No codes, no other symptoms other than using 7 gallons of DEF in 2800 miles. Which seems excessive for not towing. Hold the brake add trottle and can hear loud hiss.

Got rid of that awful fuel filter system on the L5P and installed a Fleece filter delete. Easy enough, but for anyone doing it, don’t take the shield with the housing. Mileage improved a little and I have never reset my 2nd mileage meter which reads 16.2 mpg for the average life of the truck with say 55% city and 35% highway and 10% towing.
