I’m not sure what is happening below the ice with the goofy weather. Had we not made a depth and location adjustment, we might have only had 2 or 3 Walleyes. Those two adjustments made all the different though and we were headed to the launch by 1:00. The water temperatures were in the 50’s, 54-57 degrees and we never hit 58, kinda cool but the fish were active. Over 5 feet of water but less than 10, however ...So once again not much has changed here in North Dakota as far as the ice, snow, slush and access for hard shacks and vehicles without tracks. Early was awesome and then it went south from there so we switched to Perch and found some Toads there too! All fish were caught in less than 20 feet of water and all on either buckshots or varmints.

Typically, the early ice bite on Devils Lake is pretty good. The fish always seem to be in the same areas year in and year out at this time. The mid-section of winter can vary from year to year.
