A bit late and from a different country, but: the filler pieces are not meant to go above the countertop, you need to adjust them in height. Not sure why the planner shows them like that, but it does have it's bugs and glitches. The side panels are also not supposed to go above the countertop, I'm assuming it is part of the same glitch.
